Honey-based products that live up to the buzz
Though we sort of expected the luxurious Honey & Lemon Foaming Jelly ($20) to be sticky, it’s anything but. Created with honey from Provence (mais oui, of course), the shower gel works itself into a rich lather that’s quite multi-functional, serving as both shampoo and body wash. The addition of lemon essential oils ensures that hair will rinse shiny and radiant. Find it on shelves — in French it’s “gelee moussante” — at L’Occitane (Prudential Center, 800 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.536.4289).
We’ve been waiting for a reason to cover much-lauded Greek beauty line Korres for some time now — and the brand’s Thyme Honey Mask ($27), available at Sephora (Prudential Center, 800 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.262.4200), is the perfect excuse. (Greek thyme honey is one of the world’s top honeys, after all.) After 10 minutes slathered on the face and neck, the sweet-smelling paste creates a barrier that locks moisture into skin, imparting softness, elasticity, and protection from UV radiation. Turns out the Korres camp is no stranger to the beauty benefits of honey: their first product was actually an herbal syrup made with honey and aniseed.
Leave it to old-time apothecary C.O. Bigelow (Copley Place, 100 Huntington Avenue, Boston, 617.236.7257) to dream up a Restorative Hair Mask ($14) that sounds (and smells) practically good enough to eat. Formulated for all hair types, the good-for-locks mask contains ultra- conditioning honey extract and olive oil, plus nettle extract for shine. Apply it post-shampoo and rinse after two to five minutes; for an extra-intense session, tuck coated tresses into a shower cap for 10 to 20 minutes. We’re fans of a quickie morning application, since the cream’s honey scent sticks around all d
For the driest of cold-weather-induced dry skin, we turn to the 100 percent Italian organic honey-infused Honey & Mixed Nuts Body Butter ($40) by Perlier. Sold online at www.perlier.com, the thick, sensuous cream — which practically melts into skin that’s been luxuriating in a long, soothing bath — also includes shea butter, almond oil, and mixed nuts. The fact that the formula manages to avoid being too greasy — a common issue with body butters — only further cements its place on our bedside table.
We don’t know about you, but milk and honey are two foodstuffs that leave us with an immediate sense of comfort and contentment. Soy Milk & Honey Body Polish ($27.50) may combat rough, dead skin with a hearty helping of ground laffa fruit, but the exfoliating treatment is ultimately a soothing one, thanks to shea and jojoba butters, sweet almond oil, and, of course, pure honey and soy-milk proteins. Stock up at Kiehl’s (112 Newbury Street, Boston, 617.247.1777).
